Reportable Conduct Investigations

Reportable Conduct Investigations

We conduct independent, best practice investigations into child safety concerns for schools and other organisations, including investigations under the Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme.

Many organisations are covered by the Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme established by the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (Vic). The Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme requires certain allegations of child abuse and neglect to be reported to the Commission for Children and Young People and investigated.
The five types of reportable conduct which must be reported and investigated are:
  • sexual offences against, with or in the presence of a child
  • sexual misconduct against, with or in the presence of a child
  • physical violence against, with or in the presence of a child
  • behaviour that causes significant emotional or psychological harm to a child
  • significant neglect of a child.

Best Practice Investigations

We provide independent investigations to schools and organisations, following best practice guidance and in compliance with standards set by the Commission for Children and Young People. Our investigators are independent, experienced, qualified and hold current Working with Children Checks.
  • We gather and analyse evidence to make findings of fact and findings as to whether alleged conduct amounts to reportable conduct under the Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme. Our solid investigation processes and thorough investigation reports give your organisation confidence in your decision-making and a sound basis for any subsequent action.
  • We understand that investigations about child abuse and neglect can be difficult for everyone involved. We handle all allegations with sensitivity and treat all parties with dignity and respect. We conduct investigations in a trauma-informed manner.
  • Our investigations are procedurally fair. We are unbiased and independent. We ensure that the person under investigation is given a fair opportunity to be heard.
  • We recognise the importance of children having a voice. We follow guidance from the Commission for Children and Young People in relation to interviewing children.
  • Our investigations comply with the legal requirements of the Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme and guidance from the Commission for Children and Young People. Further, we ensure that our investigation processes comply with any relevant policies and requirements of your workplace.
  • Our investigation reports are thorough, easy-to-understand and legally defensible. Our reports contain considered analysis of the evidence to support our findings in relation to reportable conduct.
